Getting Ready for the USS - Logos
Last week I blogged about IP ranges. Then, I updated the blog because I learned that we CAN use [ - ] dashes in the ranges we enter, but we cannot use [ * ] asterisks. That’s still true.
This week I want to discuss the “wrapper” for your search results. The USS search results take up most of a page. However, there is a place at the top left of the results page for your own branding or your institution’s logo. Currently, the logo size is fixed at 190 pixels (wide) and 54 pixels (high).
If you have a logo that is rectangular, you may need to resize it. If you don’t know how to resize your logo there is a *free* program you can download and use called Easy Thumbnails Magicians divx

. Once you’ve resized your logo you will need to put it on a web server. That usually involves using FTP it send it to a web server. If you don’t know how to do that please make the necessary inquiries to find out how to accomplish this within your organization.
After you have the logo on a web server you will need to know the URL for it. The entire URL beginning with http:// is necessary.
Each day we are closer to launching the Universal Search Solution. Keep up to date by using a feed reader and subscribing to this blog feed. Feed readers are also called news aggregators. Google has one that’s free but there are many others you may choose.
